Nick Bessant

April has been a great social month.

Our talk with slides this month by Nick Bessant was full of detail and action. He showed us so many pictures of his travels and of his findings and he was very funny with his quips too. His slides are so interesting. He has an understanding family who get roped into his little jaunts with his torch and camera. Some of the little frogs that he caught made so much noise that he told us he put them in the childrens bedroom! This time he showed us a picture of the little tree frog that he had brought on his last visit that to the surprise of many, had decided to hop off out of the attention. Though we were not expecting him to bring any of his interesting ‘pets’, to the delight of many of our members, and especially the Chairman, Chris, he did bring along a corn snake which was beautiful and felt so lovely and smooth. HONEST !! (That’s the snake, not our Chairman )

Our Spring Show had a lot of entries and again of a high standard. We were a little short of childrens entries this year so we need our members to enlist their children and Grandchildren. I know that some of your youngsters would have enjoyed decorating a cup cake. The judges cut a little slice from the cup cake to taste it and it looked so cute with the little slice missing. It looked very tasty actually. I could have just popped it into my mouth !!The entries we did have were really lovely. Well done to the children. Maybe some of the village children should persuade their parents to become members.

We also had a BBQ breakfast at the Depot this month. Chris, Jo and Lesley did a sterling job of feeding and watering us. Here is another benefit of becoming a member; you can purchase your garden requirements at the depot in the village on Saturday mornings and sometimes have a great breakfast too.

On May 17th we have The British Wildlife Photographer, Andy Sands, explaining how to get the best from your camera. Not to be missed I think. I, for one, am so looking forward to it. The photography entries for the Autumn Show will take up the whole of the hall.

You are all so welcome to get involved in our society. Don’t think we are only about gardening, come and join us. It is only £5 to join or if you want to try before you buy, you can come to our meetings and just pay just £1 on the door. Our meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month in the Manor House Sports and Social Centre so you can have a drink before we start at 8pm.

Have a Great Month
