New Plinth at the depot

“After several years of discussion and permission from Abbots Langley Parish Council, and with funding from the Councillor’s Community Budget, members of the Abbots Langley Gardening Society (and one or two allotment plot holders) rolled up their sleeves and prepared the ground in front of their trading depot at Manor House allotment site to provide a concrete plinth.  Large lorries deliver the stock to the depot and everyone was finding it increasingly difficult to manoeuvre the heavy pallets over the uneven grass especially after heavy rain.  Having prepared the ground and put up shuttering, all taking part had fingers crossed that the following Saturday would be dry when the ready mixed concrete was due to arrive.

All went to plan, apart from the cement mixer arriving 2 hours early when the depot was still trading.  Bags of compost had to be passed over the fence and members buying from the depot had just 12 inches of grass to get to and from the depot.  The actual pouring of the concrete went very smoothly and with many helpers taking turns in shovelling and levelling the mix.

Not only will stock delivery be easier but also the many other activities such as preparing donated plants for the carnival and the BBQ breakfasts the gardening society hold.  Chairman Chris Bromwich said “I thank all those members who pitched in and helped over the two weekends”.
