Abbots Langley Gardening Society Spring Show

March 26th 2011

We had a great Spring Show on the 26th March in the Henderson Hall.

It was very well attended and we had more entries than last year too. The standard was very high indeed and it was encouraging to see the childrens entries as they had all tried so hard. It was difficult to choose the winners.

Daffodils were, of course, the main entries and there were other classes for Cut Flowers, Flowering Plants, Fruit and Vegetables, Handicrafts, Photography and Household and then the youngsters classes.

Here are some the judges comments:-

HANDICRAFT

Lots of hard work and thought had been put into the exhibits.

The attention to details was amazing.

HOUSEHOLD

Excellent lemon curd and marmalades

CUT FLOWERS

Much improved this year and presenting the flowers in oasis made such a difference and should be encouraged.

Tea and coffee was available so it was nice to sit down and have a discussion about the entries, and there was a wonderful selection of jams, chutneys and, of course, plants for sale too.

We hold a Spring Show and an Autumn Show now, however, some years ago the Spring Show was stopped but it was decided to start them again and looking at the interest that we have had in the village, it seems it was a very good decision.  As the Spring Show has only been reintroduced in recent years, there are not, as yet, enough entries to cover the costs but as numbers increase we hope that it will be as successful as our Autumn Show.

Here are the results of the cup winners:-

The Gissing Cup - Mrs Jo Bromwich Classes 1-15 for 1 vase,3 stems of large (div 2 ) daffodils

The Valerie Hankin Cup - Colin Verge. Classes 16-39 for a pot of primulas

Our Autumn Show is on September 10th and will be held in the Abbots Langley Community Centre. Please put the date in your diaries to come and have a look. And enjoy a cup of tea or coffee with us. Better still, join the ALGS and enter one of the classes yourself.
