Abbots Langley Gardening Society

January 2011

We started the year with our Annual General Meeting where we were shown how well our society is doing. We had even more members than last year too so it is nice to know that so many people are realising that their garden or allotment is a great area to use for flowers, vegetables or relaxing in and that there is a wealth of knowledge to be gleaned from the experienced members already attending. We have a great team leading the society so we are looking forward to another interesting year. So that’s the business part of the year done with, now on to the fun stuff. (unless you are a lover of AGMs that is)

We were lucky enough to be able to have David Empson give us a talk on “What the Judge Saw”. He told us some funny stories about the things he has seen as a Judge. Can you believe that one competitor even tried to get away with using polyfiller in the bottom of their vegetable! We were given some great tips on the best way to grow prize winning vegetables that would also taste good even if you didn’t win at the show, so all that effort would not be wasted.

Our next social evening is on Thursday 17th February. The subject is “The Restoration of Wrest Park”. This is an English Heritage property within easy reach of us in Abbots Langley. It would be a great day out for all the family so why not come along to hear about it before you visit in the summer.

Please put in your diaries 11th March when we hold our spring Quiz Night.

We are always looking for new members and our meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month in the Manor House Sports and Social Centre so you can have a drink before we start at 8pm. Visitors only £1
